Primary 5 and 6
Intensive preparation for PSLE starts in Primary 5. By now, our Flourishing Dandelions should have a firm grounding in the language. With the critical thinking skills they have learnt, they are more confident in the way they speak, write and face challenges that come their way.
Now, it’s all about honing their skills in tackling every test and exam they sit for. They are taught tips and tricks in answering questions: how to look for clues in comprehension passages, choosing the words, idioms, and phrases which can help add a few more crucial marks to their compositions and selecting finer points in oral communication.
We set quarterly milestones for each student. With each class and assessment they work on, it is critical that our teachers work with our students to immediately address and fill every little gap they find to achieve their quarterly targets.
Leveraging on past years’ examination papers, our teachers sculpt each class assessment to reflect the type of questions students could potentially face for their own PSLE examinations – giving our students an expanded experience.
Stepping into an examination hall can be terrifying. The whole experience is very new and can also be a total shock to our students. Hence, we hold mock examinations for our Primary 6 students, so they can experience – albeit at a smaller scale – what it feels like. This is both a psychological and emotional preparation for them. When they step into the actual examination hall, our students will know what to expect and can be confident in tackling the examination in front of them.

Writing & Oral Class (Duration: 2hrs/week)
The Chinese syllabus has evolved. Chinese composition and oral place a higher weightage on creativity. This class targets the 3 weakest areas we in most students – oral, comprehension and composition.
Composition writing doesn’t come easily for some students. Having to string sentences together in a thoughtful and meaningful way to make a story come to life is difficult. Our Primary 5 & 6 students are taught the PSLE’s requirement of writing – starting from simple sentence construction to paragraph structuring. Our objective is for students to overcome the fear of writing and at the same time hone their skills of story-telling.
For comprehension, it is all about understanding: understanding the comprehension passage, understanding the different types and ways questions are asked, and understanding how to best answer these questions, which are expected to be more challenging at this level. From complex MCQ to cloze questions to open ended questions, we expose our students to different types of passages, writing styles, question phrasing. Our objective is for students to understand what they read while at the same time increase their vocabulary, and tune their way of answering questions to what is expected of them.
